Weigh Your Words

You didn't have to say it

You could have held it back

You know you hurt her feelings

You could have shown some tact

A truth withheld, left unsaid

Can be a kindly thing

Why be cruel and hurt someone

If that's what truth will bring

That's not to lobby lying

But there's just not the need

To say something that's hurtful

And make some poor heart bleed

And if the chance arises

To give a compliment

Why not embellish just a bit

Your words will be well spent

So please think before you speak

And weigh your words with care

And then decide which path is best

To withhold, or to share
