Pay The Piper

I, whose glass is more often

half empty

than half full,

am worried.

To my way of thinking,

you don’t get

something

for nothing;

you always have to

pay the Piper.

In reparation for

our oddly balmy Winter,

will we have a raw and chilly Spring?

Even worse, will there be

a blistering Summer?

The dreaded Dog Days -

heat and humidity,

electrical brown outs;

no air conditioning,

no relief,

no escape.

A heat lightning flashing,

sidewalk sizzling

Hell,

with sweat-soaked, sweltering,

clammy, cranky people

searching for a breath of cool air;

the slightest breeze.

Maybe not.

Maybe all will be back to normal.

Still, I can’t help but think

that the Piper will have to be paid.
