Tonight on FemSlash4Fans Radio:
Double Your Pleasure - Two Hours of "Xena" Authors Melissa Good, KG MacGregor, and Linda Crist
9 pm EST/8 pm CST

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/allaine/2010/01/22/xena-warrior-princess

On a special two-hour episode of Femslash4Fans Radio, I'll be talking about quite possibly the oldest, biggest femslash fandom to still rule the Internet today, the one fandom you CAN'T leave out of the discussion. "Xena: Warrior Princess" was more than just a hit spinoff from "Hercules: the Legendary Journeys", one of the highest-rated shows in syndication during its six-year run. It also spawned an enormous fan base in the lesbian community with its two female leads, Xena and Gabrielle; their extremely close relationship; and the "are-they-or-aren't-they" vibe that writers teased audiences with throughout. Did I say vibe? By the later seasons it was practically a NEON SIGN. The writers were clearly aware of what the fans were saying, and rather than freak out and slap them down, the staff clearly played to a point just short of their expectations. Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor have made contributions to the fandom beyond their acting as well.

There's also the impact the fandom had on the fanfic genre in general. Terms like "altfic", "uberfic" and "femslash" were basically a direct result of Xena/Gabrielle fans. For that reason, I've expanded the show by a full sixty minutes. Well, that and the fact that my guests are three of the longest, most successful, most prolific writers in the fandom, all of whom went on to become published authors in their own right. Tonight's show will feature Melissa Good, author of the "Journey of Soulmates" series and the "Tropical Storm" fics deaturing Dar/Kerry; KG MacGregor, creator of uberfic pairings like Anna/Lily
from the "Shaken" stories and Spencer/Ruth from "Malicious Pursuit"; and Linda Crist, aka Texbard, who wrote "The Bluest Eyes in Texas" featuring Kennedy/Carson, as well as the "Between the Lines" vignettes and "Galveston 1900: Swept Away".

Prologue of The Chosen Path Redux by Adam Allison [Classic/Alt/Incomplete]
I was just a little disappointed with one aspect of XWP season 6. That being that in "Parenthood" Xena split Gabrielle's skull open and seemingly killed her. This over the top action (I mean Xena could have knocked her out, how many times have we seen her do that with the chakrum?) should have been a VERY painful and powerful plot point. Instead it gets glossed over with an apology that takes all of 10 seconds in a scene. I decided to run with the idea that Gabrielle does not accept Xena's actions and it causes their relationship to implode. Characters and events from that last season are altered. None for the better. This prologue will be the first "episode" so to speak. And while it features neither Xena nor Gabrielle, it will profoundly effect them and others. I hope you enjoy it.

Every year we become the Bedazzled Book Peddler and sell books at the annual Xena Convention ( http://creationent.com/cal/xebur.htm ). This year the Convention is February 5-7 in Los Angeles. Convention attendees have told us, we're the first booth they come to when they arrive and that they save money just to buy books from us. It's no secret that readers like to thumb through books before they buy, and are more likely to buy a book when they see it in person.

We still have room for books this year. So if you're an author with published books and would like us to sell your books at this unique venue filled with serious book buyers, just send an email to Carrie, bookpeddler@bedazzledink.com for more information.

At past conventions we have sold books by KG MacGregor, Susan X. Meagher, Mary D. Brooks, I. Christie, Trish Kocialski, Ri, Linda Crist, Verda Foster, and Lara Zielinsky and this year is shaping up to be banner Convention with a selection of books from Bella Distribution, along with our yearly regulars.
