The Academy of Bards wishes to extend its congratulations to Jane Fletcher and Fortitude Press. The print version of Lorimal's Chalice has been selected as a finalist in the Best Novel category of the 2003 Gaylactic Spectrum Awards. Previous winners and/or nominees of this award include Nicola Griffin, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Mercedes Lackey and Joss Whendon! Way to go, Jane...we are very proud of you!
The Gaylactic Spectrum Awards are the premiere award recognizing science fiction works of special and positive interest to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered people. The 2003 Gaylactic Spectrum Awards will be presented at the World Science Fiction Convention in Toronto from August 28 - September 1. If you haven't already read Lorimal's Chalice, we hope you will take this opportunity to order a copy.
It tells the story of Tevi and her quest for the stolen chalice. The quest
is a sham - her family's way of banishing her from the island without causing
a scandal. She soon discovers that the outside world is a dangerous and confusing
place. Bandits and monsters are the least of her problems. Someone is prying
into a long hidden secret and Tevi is about to get caught up in the deadly consequences.

This
is very important for any authors we host! In order to submit a file
to the Academy, please subscribe to academy_submissions-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
to send us mail to join or just put your email in the box below. You will
not get any mail yourself but this will allow you to send us files and

weird we are going to do - I just can't take the spam anymore. Stop the
insanity!
This is not an update list nor will you need to do this if you are not
going to submit things to us. Thank you!
Also, from our hosting company--
On Saturday June 14th, ILON Hosting will be performing maintenance on
a portion of the servers in our data center from approximately 11pm to
5am PST. During this time, we will be physically moving some servers to
a different area of our data center in order to consolidate space. This
move requires downtime for the servers involved, and customer sites hosted
on these servers may be unavailable for a short time during the process.
All customer data will be left untouched, and no action is required by
you to prepare for this event. This maintenance is necessary to facilitate
the growth of our company and will benefit everyone down the road. We apologize

BardCon's Project Literacy
Illiteracy has become a rampant problem here and around the world. Since
BardCon is about writing and reading, we thought what better way to promote
literacy than to start our own campaign.
Project: Literacy is what we are calling this latest endeavor. Our recipient
for donations will be the StoryPlus Foundation.
The raffle that took place at BardCon 2003 was just the beginning. We
are hoping that bards, writers, graphic artists and fans will help us to
continue by participating in our next project.
We are asking that you find a beautiful, colorful picture postcard from
your home state or city. Then sign the front of it in black sharpie. On
the back of the postcard we ask that you PRINT your name clearly and also
indicate which of the categories you wish to be identified with:
Bard (X&G writer) or
If you consider yourself a member of more than one of those categories,
sign/send me a postcard for each one.
Then please put the card(s) in an envelope and mail them to:
Please, it is very important that you mail them to me in an envelope
and not directly. We want the images and signatures to stay as crisp and
clean as possible.
The cards will be separated and combined with others of the same category,
we'll add a special center graphic and voilà...turn them into a
poster. There will be a series of posters, one for each category.
These posters will then be available for purchase via a donation to
StoryPlus. It's a great way to collect signatures of your favorites and
to again show the world the generous nature of the 'Verse.
Thank you again for all the support in the past and I hope you will
participate in this latest endeavor.

A
Bliss of Another Kind by Ellis Acton Bell and Cornwel
Petra just loves to hang out with the new couple she met at the Whole
Foods store, her wife Jules would rather them do their own thing. The unlikely
quartet meets for dinner, a Floridian lesbian power couple, and our heroines
of a questionable proffesion who argue all the way. A short dark story
with a surprise ending.
A classical musician, an exotic archeologist, a mysterious and dark
Countess, and a Native American soul mate brought together in a
story intertwining the tales of love, lust, possession and intrigue
that finally culminates in an unexpected finale.
It's with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Carole Giorgio's
daughter Nicole. She was diagnosed with cancer 20 months ago just prior
to going into the Peace Corps. It doesn't seem sufficient to offer only
our condolences to her mothers, Carole and Tricia.

In this third story in the Mulligan series, Louise confronts her regrets
about hiding her true self from those around her for virtually her entire
life. While she vows not to make that same mistake with Marty, a former
student inspires her to undo the secrecy of her 31 years with Rhonda Markosky.
A PWP with a plot...
Set during and after "Ides of March," Keystones is the writer's idea
of how Xena and Gabrielle were going to get their lives back.
Set several months after their commitment ceremony, Lex and Amanda
try to settle down into a normal life. As usual, things don't go smoothly
for either of them. Amanda struggles to come to terms with what she wants
for the future, while Lex fights for everything that is important to her.
Added first 5 parts.
For ten long years following Xena's death, Gabrielle has carried on
the Warrior Princess' mission, fighting for the Greater Good. Though
Gabrielle has honored her soulmate's last decision to remain dead following
the destruction of Yodoshi, she is also compelled to seek a way to resurrect
her. Finally she enacts a daring long-range plan, manipulating the
gods and even Xena herself to achieve her goal. But to make her plan
work, Gabrielle has to die. (Revised Version 6/1/2003, Original
Version 7/7/2001).
Well after a long wait its finally here, the 4th and last installment
to the Trace and Shannon series. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in
to hear about Trace and her friends as well as a few new additions to the
"family". This is a part of a series so it would probably be best if you
started at the beginning with Summer
of Need, Meanwhile
Back at the Ranch and Winter
of Discontent. Have fun and don't try this stuff at home.
It is the second story in a series. Xena and Gabrielle escape the confines
of the Amazon village and head off on their honeymoon. Now combine the
newlyweds with a secluded cabin by the sea, no interruptions and the chance
to broaden a few horizons and what results is a nice little break from
the everyday task of making Greece safe for the masses. Second story in
a little series, with at least one more to come. Set immediately after
Battling
Herodotus.
Jamie and Casey become new neighbors. They fall in love while they
are trying to figure out who is sabotaging things around them. Will they
find out in time who it is or will they be to late? This is Part 1 of a
three part story.
(Dubois Chronicles 2.63). When the Magog attack Earth once again, Xena,
Gabrielle, Eve and their friends have to fight to save two worlds. How
will this affect things? And what do the students from Smallville have
to do with it?
(Dubois Chronicles 2.65). (Note: Takes place between "Father Doesn't
Know Best" and "Under Siege".) Graduation day in Smallville brings surprises
both good and bad to the future college students. In this case, a revived
Yodoshi attacks the Talon, bringing her and Dave Dubois into the fray.
However, what connections do Dave and the Child have to Yodoshi, Miranda
Arighatto, and the Talon?
The title's probably the best description. Beyond that, words fail
me. After reading the piece, you may think that's too little too late.
