The book, which was briefly available last summer, is based on characters from the short story series of the same name, and will ship on October 4th. The days are long and lonely for Louise Stevens, whose retirement dreams were shattered by the sudden loss of her partner. All of that changes when she meets Marty Beck, a flirtatious, fun-loving, and infuriating golf pro who pushes her buttons—including one button she thought didn't work anymore.

Marty is intrigued by the pretty Louise, a newcomer to the Pine Island Golf Club with a beautiful swing, but a disposition that needs work. Certain they can eventually be friends, she's stymied when her good-humored overtures are rejected.

Love can come along at any time, even in the golden years, and even for two women who don't expect it at all. Though a shaky start nearly dooms their romance, something tells Marty and Lou that this one might be worth a Mulligan.

Our girls Julie and Tink have left war behind them, and must now face another daunting prospect: re-adjusting to a normal life on Earth. Last weekend our most luvable fur kid, Lester, went into the nearest emergency animal hospital. He was diagnosed with a urinary blockage, and it was a pretty solid one. He ended up with a catheter for three days and two nights before finally coming home.

He's still kind of wobbly now, but that probably has a lot to do with the muscle relaxants he's been prescribed to encourage an easier time of urination. There's always the threat of relapse in the first couple of weeks, so we're watching him rather closely.

The total cost of his bill is $1,071. Ouch! Normally, we'd bite the bullet on this one, but it's an unfortunate fact that I will be out of work for a minimum of two months next spring. We are scraping together our savings to cover rent and utilities for that time period. (Don't get me wrong. There will be SOME work, but not a full-time job from April through May.)

Hence, I'm auctioning off a few items listed below. The auction will begin as soon as this page goes up. It'll end at midnight on October 5th. I will update this page as often as I can to keep everything fresh. To bid on an item, simply email me through this contact form.

You can't help but feel the undercurrents evolving throughout the story."Purgatory" by Kirsten Elliott, is a humorous look at a relationship and the petrifying feelings that accompany it. Finally, we have a favorite excerpt from T.J. Mindancer's Future Dreams about a warrior who's had that life taken away from her and realizes she misses it.
